PROJECT NEPALSince 1999, SWA has undertaken a project to help the under-privileged children in Nepal.
Since then SWA had been sponsoring a teacher’s salary at US$350.87 p.a. SWA have also been sponsoring the top 2 students (Shree Chandi Primary School) in 5 different levels a cash incentive of US$0.523 per student (a total of US$62.86 p.a.). The objective of the sponsorship was to encourage the under-privileged children to have at least a basic education.
In January 2002 a film benefit – “Himalaya” was held to raise fund in aid of Nepal. The Nepal Council and the French Charity Film: HimalayaEmbassy supported the $100,000 fund-raising project.
The beneficiaries were:
- Nepal Youth Opportunity Foundation – Nutritional Rehabilitation Home in Kathmandu – for seriously ill children who have been prematurely discharged from hospital due to lack of space.
- Prisoners Assistance Mission – a refuge in Kathmandu which rescues children from a life in prison with their criminal parent(s) as there is no one else in their families who can afford to take them in.
- Tindhara Pipaldanda School – a broken-down school struggling to cope with educating children from the surrounding 16 villages, from Class 1 to class 9.
