SWA LUNCH FOR THE ELDERLY
The Singapore Women’s Association (SWA), a non-government & non-profit organization, organised a Lunar New Year lunch of a different kind for 100 old folks.
Old folks participating in this year’s lunch are from -
the Tai Pei Old Peoples’ Home (30), the Moral Home for the Aged Sick (30), the “Samsui” Women (30), the destitute sick & on Public Assistance, who live in the Bukit Merah area and under the care of Hua Mei Care Management Services (10).
The lunch is jointly organised by SWA and Mr & Mrs Sin Leong – a practice which has become a tradition for the last 2 decades. The main objective of our Lunar New Year Luncheon is to bring cheer to the old folks.
Mr Sin Leong prepared a special herbal soup with crocodile meat donated by Mr Lee Bak Kuan of Long Kuan Hung Crocodile Farm Pte Ltd.
Old folks who have savoured this soup at our past years’ lunches claim that the soup helped ease the discomfort in their joints and help them sleep better at night.
The 100 old folks were treated to chinese dishes specially chosen by Mr Sin Leong, and given a goodies bag* each.
The Singapore Women’s Association gave out ang-pows to the elderly (some of them wheelchair-bound), as well as provided for their transport to the restaurant.
Mr Lee Bak Kuan , Mr Sin Leong and a couple of his friends also gave out ang-pows to the old folks.
Altogether the old folks received 5 ang-pows.
There were singing by some of our guests to entertain the old folks.
There was also a demonstration on the art of Noodle-pulling (Ramen) by a famous chef, Mr. Sang Koon Sung who holds the Guinness record of being able to produce the most and the finest noodles at the shortest time : 8192 strands in 59.29 seconds and the noodle is fine enough to thread through a needle.
