LUNAR NEW YEAR LUNCH FOR THE ELDERLY 2019

SWA has been organizing the Lunar New Year Luncheon for the Elderly since 1977. Singapore Petroleum Company (SPC) is the anchor sponsor of the event and has partnered SWA since 2006 to share this “Chun Jie” (春节) festivity with the old folks and to bring cheers to our needy elderly friends.  The lunch was held usually after the 15th day of the first month in Lunar New Year.  Er Ku was engaged to provide the entertainment programme.  About 300 old folks are invited.  The elders were treated to a sumptuous Halal & Non-Halal Chinese lunch. Each elderly received some red packets and a goody bag. They had a wonderful time with the very innovative and retro nostalgic acts and songs put together by the group of entertaining artists arranged by Er Ku.  SPC has pledged its support to continue sponsoring this event. We had very positive feedback from the elderly who attended the lunch and also received thank you letters from the homes.

This year on 27 February 2019, we celebrated our 42nd Lunar New Year Lunch for the Elderly.

The Singapore Petroleum Company (SPC) partnered us since 2006 as the main sponsor for the event to share the festivity and bring cheer to our elderly friends. We are indeed grateful that when SPC joined PetroChina International (Singapore) Pte Ltd, (PCSG) one of the largest oil and gas companies in the world in 2009, they continued to partner us. This is our 14th year that we have partnered with PCSG & SPC.

We invited 300 elderly from 8 voluntary welfare organisations namely:

  • Jamiyah Home for the Aged,

  • Tai Pei Old Peoples’ Home

  • Sarah’s Senior Activity Centre,

  • NTUC SilverAce Elder Care (Whampoa Branch),

  • Thye Hwa Kwan Moral Society (Redhill Branch),

  • Indus Moral CARE Senior Activity Centre,

  • Kreta Ayer Seniors Activity Centre (Jalan Kukoh Branch) and

  • Kreta Ayer Seniors Activity Centre (Banda Street Branch)

As Singapore is a multi-racial and multi-cultural society we invited some friends from the Braddell Heights Inter-Racial and Religious Confidence Circle (BHCC IRCC) to participate in this special lunch. We are honoured that the Mayor of North West CDC, Dr Teo Ho Pin took time off his busy schedule to grace the lunch as our Guest of Honour. Our 300 elders and we all truly enjoyed the sumptuous Chinese and Halal lunch prepared by Qian Xi Restaurant (Payar Lebar). We had entertainment by Er Gu and her friends. All the 300 elders each received 2 Ang Pows and a Goody bag after lunch. The elders asked to be invited to the SWA Lunar New Year Lunch again next year.
