The first run of Project Taking Charge in 2022 commences on 10 May.  There will be seven lessons covering life planning, communication, interview, image presentation, image styling, customer care skills and feedback.  About ten residents from AFC Temporary Shelter (Singapore Anglican Community Services) will be attending the training courses.  

SWA Laughter Yoga Team conducted a laughter yoga session for about 15 seniors at CDAC Tampines Centre. 

NDP Cheers 2021 bought National Day Parade celebrations to 8300 residents of 31 Nursing homes. Dr Tan Bee Wan, Executive Chairman and Ms Tang Wai San, Executive Director of ACE Senior presented a painting to Lee Li Hua, President of Singapore Women’s Association (SWA). This is in appreciation of the support from SWA in NPD Cheers 2021. Singapore Women Association has been collaborating with ACE Seniors to bring NDP celebrations to nursing homes and the community hospital since 2017.

Break the bias- What is bias? To break a bias, we need to understand the core of how it developed and what it means contextually to each individual. Can we recognise the colour and impact of our own bias?

At birth, we are a blank slate. We build experiences and learn. Is experience the origin of bias? Is it nurture or nature? 

Every experience is a life episode. These mini-episodes becomes our feelers to manage our expectations and manoeuvre our way in life. They develop as safeguard mechanisms to help us advance and grow or hinder and stumble.
 

Thus, how do we break this bias?

At Singapore women’s association, we would like to use International Women’s Day to ask everyone to deep dive within ourselves and think about the last time we deliver the bias to others on a daily basis. 
 

By honestly identifying it, we can take measures to arrest it.
 

Some introspective questions:
• Are we being biased at home with our family?
• Are we being biased with work allocations?
• Did we actively engage in crucial conversations?
• Was there bias towards a person due to gender/systemic situations/geographical/race/circumstance?

By addressing it, we will break it because we have taken a step forward and face our demons straight in the eyes.

As part of Changi Simei CC International Women's Day Celebration programme on 6 March 2022, SWA Laughter Yoga and Wellness club was invited to share with the residents in Changi Simei area with a twenty minutes Laughter Yoga

The Theme for International Women's Day (IWD) on 8 March 2022 (IWD2022) is " Gender equality today for sustainable tomorrow", recognising the contribution of women and girls around the world, who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation and response, to build a more sustainable future for all.

As part of Casa Raudha International Women's Day Celebration programme on 5 March 2022, SWA Laughter Yoga and Wellness club was invited to share with the residents in Casa Raudha Shelter with a twenty minutes Laughter Yoga

Singapore Women's Association in collaboration with Ren Ci Hospital brought much joy to the residents with our annual Lunar New Year activities. The challenges brought about by Covid is further amplified as the majority of the residents in Ren Ci hospital are pretty much devoid of human interactions due to their health conditions and the multitude of restrictions brought about by the threat of Delta and Omnicron.   

SWA is celebrating the Year of the Tiger with our seniors at Ren Ci Community Hospital on 10 Feb 2022. More details will be available for viewing after the event.

At SWA we have been garnering great support year on year from many caring people to our meaningful causes to empower women. We continually host an annual dinner with all our annual donors, partners, sponsors and volunteers. 
This coming 17th December 2021, we will be hosting a digital version to express our appreciation to all who have contributed massively to the causes we uphold in our mission

Our Pioneer generation grew up during the tumultuous years of the 1930s and early 1960s. They steered the labour force in turbulent times, building a sturdy foundation.The covid situation has greatly reduced the quality of daily lives.This year, SWA improved on our AV preparations to enhance the quality of the celebration with our highly valued partners - Ren Ci Hospital and ACES . We endeavoured to bring some cheer and joy for the residents at Ren Ci on a digital format to continuously enhance the quality of lives of our respected pioneer generation.

SWA will be conducting an e-AGM on 22 May 2021 at 2pm. Details have be sent out to all members. We continue to follow The Commissioner of Charities (COC) and the Chartered Secretaries Institute of Singapore (CSIS)'s Guide on conduct of meetings amid COVID-19.

Charity Car Wash organised by Singapore Women's Association, supported by MCCY, Braddell Heights IRCC. Venue supported by St Gabriel's Secondary School. Product and volunteers sponsored by Dream Workshop. Volunteers sacrificed their Sunday to raise fund for the Lions Home for the Elders and SWA Community Projects. Mr Seah Kian Peng, our GOH, started the event by washing the car. It was a successful and meaningful events and provide opportunities for participants to give back to society.

A pilot session was conducted on 21 Oct 2020 and was well received by the residents. Regular sessions have been conducting on 1st and third Wednesday of the month wef from December. The programme: benefits and four steps of Laughter Yoga, Laugher Yoga Exercises, Singing and Laughter Yoga Bollywood Dance

With the successful National Day Celebration via Zoom, SWA has been conducting Laughter Yoga Class with Ren Ci Community Hospital via Zoom from 230pm to 300pm every Friday via Zoom. The programme: benefits and four steps of Laughter Yoga, Laugher Yoga Exercises, Singing and Laughter Yoga Bollywood Dance. Residents from four wards from Ren Ci Irrawaddy Road and Bt Batok attended.

We understand that social distancing has driven many people to delve into the darker realms of our minds. It is tough for regular folks with mobility and ability. This mental social isolation is further amplified for residents of hospices, homes and hospitals when visitations from loved one were restricted for months. SWA brought some cheer and joy for the residents at Ren Ci in our small ways through our activities.

The President, Ms. Lee Li Hua welcomed members to the AGM. She thanked them for their attendance, support and help in our various activities. She highlighted that as we got used to the new norm, working from home, social distancing, meetings via Zoom and now e – AGM. Charity work would continue to be an important part of SWA, serving and helping the community. Due to Covid 19, a lot of our projects were on hold. The Inaugural session was held on 3 June. There will be sessions on 1st and third Wednesday of each month from 830 pm to 9:00pm. It is hosted by Certified Laughter Yoga Leaders Wendy Khon and Angela Wong. Advisor is Sara Mei Woo. Objectives: bring more laughter and joy into our life through the daily practice of Laughter Yoga to get physical, mental and emotional benefits of laughter.

SWA bought national day to seniors in Ren Ci Community Hospital. It is a collaboration with ACE Seniors and Ren Ci volunteers Group ‘Beautiful Sunday”. Ren Ci Community Hospital came alive with the sights and sounds of the National Day Parade. The parade was imagined as a carnival, where food and game booths of yesteryears line the halls, while familiar tunes fill the event space with echoes of nostalgia. Our senior residents, staff and volunteers alike are also treated to various performances and live telecast of the National Day parade. About 50 residents joined the celebration with screening of NDP, performance, games booths and snacks booths.

SWA participated in Project I-Care in collaboration with NWCDC, SSO, SWA and Rotary/Rotaract/Interact Clubs.  Residents received eye screening for important blinding diseases such as Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy and Cataracts.   Huge and sincere thanks to volunteers who have made this sustainable and impacting vulnerable Singaporeans.  Volunteer Doctors and Optometrist:  Dr Allan Fong, Dr Saadia, Dr Andrew Tsai, Dr Milton Chew and Mun Ching.

The President, Lee Li Hua, presided at the AGM in which 17 members attended. The President, Ms. Lee Li Hua welcomed members to the AGM.  She thanked them for their attendance, support and help in our various activities. She highlighted that the participation at the AGM were of great importance as we reviewed the past year’s activities and upcoming events for this year.  Charity work would continue to be an important part of SWA, serving and helping the community. To ensure continuing success all members’ help are needed to start spreading the words around talking to members and friends who may not be regularly updated on our events.  An introduction on “Project Taking Charge” was given by Sara Mei Woo, Tan Ketsu Tan, Kyla Tan and Angela Wong after the AGM.

Members of SWA brought cheers to residents at Reni Ci Community Hospital. We distributed Tauhuay. Some residents danced and sang with us on the good old songs. We managed to cover 3 levels and 18 wards, hopefully, brought some light moments for them. We are so touched by their joyful responses.

The Women’s General Association of Macau invited SWA to send a team of 12 ladies to join the festival.  It is a great opportunity to impel female participation in sports and to promote friendly relationship among women of states region. 12 SWA members joined the festival.

Members: Janet Lum, Alice Chai, Vivien Sham, Angeline Yang, Serene Tan, Eileen Feng, Roxanne Zhang, S Priyanka Annuncia and Shayne Wong. Teams from overseas included: Singapore, Donguan, Guizhou, Hong Kong, Huizhou, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taipei, Thailand, Zhaoqing and Macau. 

Eileen Feng Miss Singapore International 2018 gave a presentation on “The relationship between exercise and nutrition”. 

The team, led by Priyanka, presented “The Women Warriors”  at the Mass Sports Fitness Exhibition. 

It was a great event to meet women leaders from the participating countries.

SWA has been organizing the Lunar New Year Luncheon for the Elderly since 1977. Singapore Petroleum Company (SPC) is the anchor sponsor of the event and has partnered SWA since 2006 to share this “Chun Jie” (春节) festivity with the old folks and to bring cheers to our needy elderly friends.  The lunch was held usually after the 15th day of the first month in Lunar New Year.  Er Ku was engaged to provide the entertainment programme.  About 300 old folks are invited.  The elders were treated to a sumptuous Halal & Non-Halal Chinese lunch. Each elderly received some red packets and a goody bag. They had a wonderful time with the very innovative and retro nostalgic acts and songs put together by the group of entertaining artists arranged by Er Ku.  SPC has pledged its support to continue sponsoring this event. We had very positive feedback from the elderly who attended the lunch and also received thank you letters from the homes. This year on 27 February 2019, we celebrated our 42nd Lunar New Year Lunch for the Elderly.
 

SWA is actively involved in volunteering & serving residents of a few homes bringing NDP 2018 to the residents of nursing homes. Board n friends went on stage to entertain the guests with a few beautiful songs. Recited the nation's pledge and singing our national anthem There are ice cream sandwich, teh tarik, kueh tutu, soya bean curd, wafers, kachang puteh and games, paint with colours...Colour Your World! It's a meaningful, caring and heartwarming activity.

24 March 2018 marked the first KWSH Community Care Day since the completion of the redevelopment. Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Health & Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, graced the occasion as Guest Of Honour (GOH).  115 elderly from the community enjoyed free eye screening from SWA’s Singapore Visioncare Programme.  Dr Jovina See, Cecilia and Anne were the volunteer doctors. 

Every March, SCWO celebrates International Women’s Day (IWD) with a gala dinner and the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame (SWHF) induction ceremony. IWD was designated by the UN in 1975 as a special day to reflect on the advancements made by women, to consider the challenges faced today, and to access our role in the future. 

The SWHF was launched by the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO) in 2014 to recognize and salute the outstanding women of Singapore. It is the celebration of the women who have made, or are making, an impact on our nation – the boundary-breakers and record-holders, the risk-takers and change-makers, the role-models and standard-setters. Exco members led by Li Hua participated the event.

The Women’s General Association of Macau invited SWA to send a team of 12 ladies to join the festival.  It is a great opportunity to impel female participation in sports and to promote friendly relationship among women of states region. 11 SWA members joined the festival. SWA Team  was led by President, Li Hua, Advisor Sara Mei Woo and Secretary Angela Wong with eight members: Joyce Yeo, Tan Pheck Woei, Janet Lum, Kylie Yeo, Lynette Chua, Lynn Two, Stephanie Koh and Gisele Ong.  Teams from overseas included: Tung Koon, Guam, Kwong Tung, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Macau. Lynn Teo, Miss Singapore Supranational 2017 gave a presentation on “The Relationship Between Leisure Sports and Women’s Health”. Kylie Yeo, Miss Singapore International 2017 led the team in the mass sports performance “It is Singapore” at the mass sports exhibition. It was a great event to meet women leaders from the participating countries.

Wendy Khon, our 3rd Vice President was the Organising Chair.  SWA has been organizing the Lunar New Year Luncheon for the Elderly since 1977.

The elders were treated to a sumptuous Halal & Non Halal Chinese lunch. Each elderly received some red packets and a goody bag. They had a wonderful time with the very innovative and retro nostalgic acts and songs put together by the group of entertaining artists arranged by Er Ku. SPC has pledged its support to continue sponsoring this event. We had very positive feedback from the elderly who attended the lunch and also received thank you letters from the homes.

Talk was given by Lawyer Leong Chooi Peng. Total 44 members and friends attended. LPA is early preparations to protect your interests should one become vulnerable one day. It enables you to make a personal, considered choice of a trusted proxy decision maker, who is reliable and competent to act in his or her best interests. The talk was well received by members.

Enchanting creates a sisterly relationship with the customer by holding their hands and going through the journey of being beautiful together.  SWA agreed to be the fundraising event’s beneficiary. Fundraising mechanism will be via a donation of 50% of the profit from proceeds. A booth is allocated to SWA on event day for promotion of the organisation’s purpose and projects. Complimentary pages on event’s program booklet to introduce SWA as the fundraising event beneficiary were given.  Kyla shared about SWA and the event was successfully held on 17 September. Angela and Ian Tan attended the event. 

Held on 12th August 2017 at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, the SWA Charity Dinner is one of our longest running charity initiatives to raise funds for our beneficiaries. 

The Miss Singapore International Beauty Pageant is the highlight of our annual charity dinner, themed “Beauty with Heart and Purpose”; the pageant encapsulates the true meaning behind the programme – to provide for the underprivileged through charity. Winners will be invited to participate  in Miss International in Japan, Miss Supranational in Poland, Miss Asia Pacific International in Philippines and Miss Tourism Queen of the Year in Shanghai. 
 

This year we were again honored to have Mr Seah Kian Peng, Member of Parliament, Marine Parade GRC as our Guest of Honor to grace the event and we were also delighted to have the continual support of our main sponsors of this initiative – the Lee Foundation, Hong Leong Foundation, the FairPrice Foundation and EHA Clinic (Dr Elias Tam). Donation was also received from Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple.

SWA sent a team of volunteers to the event, “An Inclusive Singapore - Celebration of 2017 National Day to our Frail Elderly” at Society for Aged Sick on 6th August 2017 organised by ACE Seniors.  SWA received a thank you note as follows: “Thank you for the love, warmth and passion you’ve displayed as a volunteer during our National Day celebration this year!”

Huiqi, Miss Singapore International 2017 gave a presentation on “Benefits of Aerobic Exercise”. The team presented the Active Singapore “Tomorrow is here today” at the Mass Sports Fitness Exhibition. It was a great event to meet women leaders from the participating countries.

SWA continues to work closely with the Braddell Heights IRCC. We participated and bonded with the IRCC members in their many events organized throughout the year.  Wendy Khon, our 3rd Vice President has been reappointed as Secretary to the Braddell Heights IRCC.  Some of the events we participated were: -

• Wendy Khon attended a networking cum dialogue session with Mayor Dr Maliki on 13 Jan 2017.
• BHCC IRCC Appointment Holders were presented their appointment letters at the BHCC Lunar Year Gathering held on 31 Jan 2017.
• BH IRCC organised Team Building Activities/Re-appointments/long service awards on 29 April 2017 at ORTP (old bottle tree park near Khatib MRT). Mr. Seah attended and gave away appointment certificates and long service awards. Wendy Khon was re-appointed as Secretary of BHCC IRCC. Wendy, Sara Mei, Any and Angela attended the event.
• IRCC Table Top Exercise TTX on 4 Jul 2017 at Nanyang Junior College. Wendy and Angela attended. The role of IRCC is to disseminate timely and accurate information to religious and community organization, to provide reassurance and calm to respective communities, to monitor the ground situation relating to the crisis situation and collect feedback, and to assist emergency authorities in managing incidents and restoring normalcy.
• Learning Journey of Harmony: 29 July in conjunction with Racial Harmony Day. We visited Silat Road Sikh Temple, Ruthra Kaliamman temple and Masjid Temenggong. Members attending: Wendy, Any and Alice Chai.
• IRCC National Day Dinner on 5 Aug (Sat) at Serangoon Amphitheatre, near Block 263 Serangoon Central Drive, 7pm to 10pm.
• IRCC National Day Dinner-SWA hosted it on 24 Aug 7:30pm. SWA did a brief introduction on SWA. Members attending: Li Hua, Wendy, Angela, Sara Mei, Joyce, 2016 Queens 4, Janice Koh, 2017 Queens 4, Lynette, Anny, Meiting, Alice Chai, Elizabeth.
• 18 October 2017 – Public Holiday (Deepavali) Walkathon & Fun Day organized by Bartley Community Care Services & Bartley Christian Church. SWA supported the inaugural Bartley Community Care Services fund raising walkathon. Attended by: Lee Li Hua, Wendy Khon, Joyce Yeo, Angela Wong, Tan Pheck Woei, Christopher Jones, Anny Leow and Jacquelyn Liew

SWA has worked with Jumbo seafood on fund raising dinners during Christmas and New Year.  Members and friends of SWA enjoyed a special package meal from Jumbo group of restaurants.  Jumbo donated part of the proceeds to SWA for our community projects. All members participated to promote the menu for SWA’s fund raising purpose.

SWA was very thankful to our Honorary President and Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo, for gracing our occasion and as our Keynote Speaker. This Convention saw the renewal of ties with the General Federation of Women's Clubs who was instrumental in helping FAWA to set up in 1959. We welcomed the GFWC International President, Sheila Shea to our Convention. At this Convention, we had past Observers who had attended at least one Convention in applying for membership from three new Clubs from Korea and one from the Philippines. New Clubs attending the 22nd Convention as Observers are Macau, Malaysia, Japan and the Philippines.
